What criteria are used to evaluate the quality of public spaces?
Firstly, it involves returning the city to pedestrians with a special mention for the Exhibition Road Project in London, which courageously banned cars in the historic squares of the British capital.
The award also praised the intelligent enhancement of national heritage. In Ljubljana in Slovenia, the judges commended the city’s collective effort to restore its riverbanks in keeping with their historic uses, whilst revitalising the surrounding urban areas.
The award, given by six European institutes including Barcelona’s Centre for Contemporary Culture, also praised artistic projects that created a little magic for public transport users.
